Happy Birthday to the Rejection Hotline®:
Celebrating 7 Years of Rejection
ATLANTA, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's never comfortable to reject
potential suitors face-to-face. Let's face it; with email, instant
messaging and SMS, many of us have forgotten how to deal with uncomfortable
situations in person. The Rejection Hotline has come to the rescue of
millions of people and this summer marks the 7th anniversary of this
humorous turn-down tool, located in 200+ cities across the country
including Atlanta (404-260-1318), Los Angeles (310-735-0099) and New York
City (212-660-2245).
What exactly is the Rejection Hotline? Callers to the line hear a
recording telling them they have been rejected, but should accept the fact
that they were rejected and to get over it:
"Hello, this is not the person you were trying to call. You've reached the
The Rejection Hotline. The person who gave you this number did not want
you to have their real number ... So why were you given a Rejection
Hotline phone number?
-- Maybe you're just not this person's type (note: this could mean boring,
dumb, annoying, arrogant, or just a general weirdo).
-- Maybe you suffer from bad breath, body odor, or a nasty combination of
the two.
-- Maybe you just give off that creepy, overbearing, psycho-stalker vibe.
-- Maybe the idea of going out with you just seems as appealing as playing
leapfrog with unicorns."
The service rendered by the hotline makes the act of rejection sting
just a little bit less - for both the rejecter and the rejected!
"I started it as a joke," says Rejection Hotline creator, Jeff
Goldblatt. "But people found it funny and passed it on to friends. It just
took off virally by word-of-mouth and started getting millions of calls.
Most of the millions of callers are just dialing in for a laugh because
they heard about it from a friend or from the media," Goldblatt explains.
"It's intended as a light-hearted joke, a satirical spoof on the whole
'can-I-get-your-number' dating scene. It's definitely not meant to be taken
too seriously; but, of course, it's there if people really do need it -
hopefully just as a last resort."
